Moreover, the director of Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute (MERI), Dr. Francisco Artigas, brought his team and hauled the algal removal boat for onsite demonstration. The photo below shows his presentation talk to the participating students and staff.

On 08/10/2022 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Dr. Zhang’s group organized an outdoor workshop with Kelley Forsyth from Jersey Cares (www.jerseycares.org/careofthepark) at Branch Brook Park. This meeting is intended to engage high school and college students from the Youth Employee Group to learn about the water quality (e.g., algal bloom) challenges the waterways of Branch Brook Park are facing. Zhang’s group members presented three posters to highlight algae-related projects/research that is currently under the NJDEP funding support. We demonstrated to the participating students the current practices and solutions to mitigate HABs.
