2014/10: Our lab synthesized magnetic NPs that are attracted by permanent magnet. The magnetic NPs can be used to remove or harvest algae, remove bacteria and other water contaminants.

2014    Michael Agbakpe (PhD student advised by Dr. Zhang) won the first place in the 2014 Dana Knox Student Research Showcase

2014/12: Dr. Zhang’s group published a new paper in ES&T:

Shijian Ge, Michael Agbakpe, Zhiyi Wu, Liyuan Kuang, Wen Zhang,*, Xianqin Wang. Influences of Surface Coating, UV Irradiation and Magnetic Field on the Algae Removal Using Magnetite Nanoparticles, Environmental Science and Technology (2015), DOI: 10.1021/es5049573

July 30, 2014. Dr. Zhang was invited to give a seminar talk on nanotechnology on water and energy sustainability at an environmental club by the name of ESI (Eco Social Initiative) founded by the local high school students of New Jersey. Besides, Dr. Zhang is hosting several local high school students in his laboratory, providing internship and research training in photocatalytic processes and algal biotechnology.
