A PhD research assistant (RA) position is available to work with the Dr. Wen Zhang’s research group at NJIT with the focuses on environmental nanotechnology. Dr. Zhang’s research includes (1) Material characterization at nanoscale using hybrid atomic force microscope (AFM); (2) Environmental behavior and interfacial processes for nanomaterials; (3) Novel catalytic processes for harnessing renewable energy and pollutant degradation; (4) Reactive magnetophoretic separation systems; (5) Catalytic membrane filtration for emerging contaminant removal.
The candidate should have research experiences in environmental or chemical engineering, materialand colloidal science. Most importantly, a record of high-quality publications, competent writing skill and critical thinking are considered critical. The PhD student will work on research related to one or more of the following projects:
(1) Characterization of facet-dependent properties of crystalline nanomaterial funded by the US National Science Foundation (NSF)
(2) Multifunctional nanobubble technologies funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and US National Science Foundation (NSF)
(3) Lithium recovery from waste/spentlithium ion battery (LIB) using green chemical processes funded by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The position is available immediately with an official start date of September 2019. The appointment will begin as soon as the position is filled. Prospective highly motivated students witha M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, chemistry or related fields are encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will receive a full tuition support, stipend, and benefits. Prospective students should also submit GRE, TOEFL (if non-native English speaker), and CV, a brief statement (1-2 pages) of career goals and research experience and contact information of three professional references to Wen Zhang.
